Maria Josef
The Birth of the Bug (2022)
The Royal Danish Academy 29.04.2023
Description
The Birth of the Bug is a digitally 3D-animated video created by Maria Josef. The animated short film is an exploration of the origins of bugs, and the meaning of bugs in a post-anthropocene age. With the term ‘computer bug’ or ‘software bug’ as a starting point for her interest, Maria is exploring the bug as being capable of connecting physical and digital realities, flying in between both and weaving threads together. At the same time, Maria is looking into the availability of digital spaces, how they are often biased by the programmer, and how she can contribute with a different cyber landscape, one embracing hyperfemininity, softness, and inclusiveness.
